Early Meiji Period Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Pair Vases with Three Toed Dragons

Nice Large Early Meiji Period Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Pair Vases with Three Clawed Dragons. A very nice antique matched pair with ovoid body and short waisted neck Each vase with two confronting dragons with flaming scrolls. Body is deep green underneath a clear gloss coat over plethora of goldstone highlights. True pair, opposing designs, but not identical in detail.

Three clawed dragons are typically Japanese works of art from my experience. If you check a Chinese vase, I would expect to see five claws (toes) on a Chinese dragon. Interesting that the top and bottom rims are red toned metal, likely copper. These vases exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship for early Meiji pieces. With these early cloisonne vases, there is pitting commensurate with age and visible in photos. These antique vases are in excellent original condition.

No damages, repairs, cracks or dents. Again, pitting common level for age. Good size at over 9" tall and 4 1/4" wide.

Please see photos as an integral part of this description. The goldstone highlights are more brilliant in person. Wonderful three clawed dragon vase pair would be an excellent addition to your cloisonne collection.

Please check my other auctions. I pack very promptly and securely.
