Ikebana is the art of beautifully arranging cut flowers, leaves and stems in vases and bowls that evolved in Japan over seven centuries. The choice of what plants to arrange is guided by the desire to create harmony between flower, container and the surrounding environment.
The Meiji Era was the 44-year period of Japan's history from 1868 to 1912 when the country was under the rule of the great Emperor Mutsuhito. Also called the Meiji Emperor, he was the first ruler of Japan to wield actual political power in centuries. Here is a beautiful & very cute antique lily pad lotus blossom Ikebana bowl vase expertly crafted from bronze made in Japan. Dates to late 19th - early 20th c. Research shows newer later copies were made of this popular motif in various metals including brass, but this is an old original one made from Japanese bronze.
Very cute little bronze frog sitting at edge of lily pad! Delicate flower stems & stamens radiate from center creating a delicate graceful Art Nouveau style. Nice flowing contours & textures in a lovely 3-Dimensional design that grabs the attention & attracts the eye of the nature art lover.
Gorgeous patina & amazing condition with really no flaws to report (see pics). Measures about 10 1/2" wide X 5 1/4" tall (inches) & weighs about 5 lbs. I have more fine vintage porcelain, glassware, & antique cut glass listed!
