This is an original Antique mid 19th century Japanese bronze okimono of a Budistic Temple guardian or Shi Shi as I think they are called, its unusual being really. Very small but an extremely powerful.Model, it also has a wonderful original colour and patina which show all the fine detail, at first glance I thought it was Chinese but when looking closely its clear that its not and then when its turned over it has this amazing signature oval reserve with detailed hand engraved inscription within the bronze. I do not know what it says but it is not like anything we have seen before, I think it was possibly made for a special purpose or client and its just quite something different and special, its like a giant Bronze ShiShi netsuke! It also comes with an original 19th century simulated Bamboo stand which seems to fit it well and looks period correct also being Antique, the stand is a bit dry and stained now so needs some restoration and a good clean and wax but its all as we have bought it. Size : Approx 16.5 cm long x 9 cm high for the bronze alone not the stand, max. Please look at the images closely as they represent an important part of the description, thanks.
