Japanese Meiji period Totai cloisonne porcelain ginger jar turquoise, flowers
Japanese Meiji period Totai cloisonne porcelain ginger jar. Pretty flower patterns in turquoise and mauve. Lovely subtle colours 9 cms tall by 8 cms wide at the widest part. This form of cloisonne is created on a porcelain (or other ceramic) base. The cloisons were applied to the base and the enamels subsequently.
The method was only attempted for a short period - late 19th century to early 20th - and I believe only in Japan. This is a Meiji period piece. The item "Japanese Meiji period Totai cloisonne porcelain ginger jar turquoise, flowers" is in sale since Friday, August 16, 2019.
