Rare Antique Japanese Meiji Period Inlaid Marquetry Campaign Travelling Box. This features amazing marquetry work using a traditional technique called Yosegi, which involves very detailed intricate geometric patterns painstakingly made. Inlay of different specimen woods.
By true crafts people of their time. Measures 13.75"across and is 11"tall with a depth of 9.75.A very usable piece with a great warm patina showing through with a waxed finish. Will display well in any period or contemporary setting.
In great overall condition and in a very usable state. There is age related shrinkage and warpage due to its age and materials used, mainly the detachable top. Which makes up the centre of the desk. Has wear and tear commensurate with age and use.
The cabinet and black lacquer finish in places have small marks, scratches here and there, surface wear, light scratches, rubbing etc. Nothing major, but noted and does not detract from this fine example that are becoming increasingly harder to find. All drawers open and close fine, the catches work but No keys. All photos taken outside in good daylight.
