The vase has a squared shoulder with four figural decorated panels sitting on a round low pedestal base. There is intricate engraved gold work on the neck down to the shoulder area and on base with the entire design painted in polychrome enamels. The vase is marked with an unidentified painted mark on the bottom. Measures 3 1/8" high, 1 3/4" at widest with a 1 1/4 diameter base.

This nice vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. History: Satsuma is a yellowish earthenware usually decorated with detailed Japanese figures with expressive facial features. This ware was generally created for the export marked of the mid-19th Century to cater to Western markets.
