Lovely Artifact for the Library. Writer's box outer dimensions are 8"W x 12"L x 9 H. Features Three Drawers - Top Drawers are 3-3/8"W x 11-3/8"L x 2-1/8"H; Lower Drawer is 7"W x 11-1/2"L x 3"H.

Secret compartment (opened by slightly disguised iron circle within iron latch at top front of box) is a 7" x 11-1/4" x 2 ink well. The ink well holds a separate 7" x 11-1/4" x 1-1/2 open ink box. The portable Meiji Dansu (Merchant Chest) (made with the design of an iron handle on the surface of the cabinet) signified professions of business and of art, as early as the ninth and tenth centuries, were often painted red. The Meiji period favored natural wood and iron hardware in appearance. Construct is tight, sturdy and honorable.
