ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD MIXED METAL PAGE TURNER - MONKEY MOTIF HANDLE. Mixed metal page turner, with an exquisitely detailed repousse handle of a. Monkey sitting in a persimmon tree, measures 12 inches long and 1 1/8 inches wide (30.50 cm by 2.85 cm). Artisan and date created unknown, circa late 19th century. The monkey on the handle is facing to the front on one side and his back shows on the other side. Both sides of the blade have engraved designs of persimmon tree branches, with one side having a monkey. The handle is partially split along the joints [see close-up photo], and the blade has evidence of light surface scratches, otherwise the page turner is in good condition for its age.
