This wonderful large Meiji Period Japanese Imari charger is decorated with gilding and enamel (including raised enamel). It features four reserves depicting a red and gold bird in a garden with a flowering tree with other birds and butterflies in the background. Between these reserves are four underglaze blue sections featuring pine and bamboo. The center features more pines and cherry trees and what could be a rickshaw parked in the garden. The charger has a great red and gold enameled diapered border.
The reverse also features motifs in underglaze blue and red enamel. The charger is in great condition with just a little wear on the gilded sections and a small production smear of enamel on the reverse. It is 18 in diameter.
