An earthenware vase, in the form of a traditional Uchimizu water bucket. 1868 - 1912, late 19th century. The bucket, for display use as a vase, is decorated with trellis of Wisteria vines, which cascade down the body, with small birds nestled within the branches. Staked Peony flowers can be sighted, near the lower portion of the body.

The water bucket was used in a Japanese Tradition called Uchimizu, where water was poured on the streets for a spiritual cleansing at the beginning of the New Year. Water from the bucket, was also used for traditional tea making. Signed "Kinkozan" with an embossed seal to the underside of the base. Excellent Condition, without any damage.
