A large antique Japanese Imari charger (plate). Japan, Meiji period, circa 1880. This is a very large and impressive antique Japanese Imari plate. ALL hand painted in polychrome enamel, in blue cobalt, red and gold gilding.Decorated with flowers, plants and pelican (swan). With 4 blue symbols marks at the back, and signed as pictured (see photo).
The gold gilding highlights gives more elegance and luxury to the work. Diameter : 18 inches (46 cm). H : 2 1/4 inches (6 cm).Weight : 8 lbs 2.1 oz (3.7 kgs). From my experience, this is REALLY a heavy piece, compared to the size, unusual weight.
Which reflects the authenticity of the piece. Please see photos carefully to admire the beauty of the work. One small chip, noticeable only from the back, can't see it from the front side. One scratch, noticeable from the front side at the edge (see last 2 photos).
Normal wear due to age. No chips, cracks or any other damage. Clean and ready to be placed. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Plates".
