Hand painted gilt work on top of delicately painted Satsuma enamels of butterflies, against a background of hundreds of tiny butterflies. Both marked with the Shimazu family crest and artists signature. A repair to both rims (photographs 10 + 11) along with minor wear to gold gilding on the rims commensurate with age. Each measure 7" in height - 4.25" across widest point. 2.25" across the rim - 2.5" across the base.A highly decorative pair which would display superbly in both a period or contemporary setting.
